It is early here and the house has settled down. Turns out all the things that have been happening to Mom is the result of her having Shingles. Yep, good 'ol chicken pox virus. Seems both the local hospital and ER missed the huge a$$ rash on her back. Treated her for other things and not the root cause. Gave her Dilaudid for pain. Medicine was WAY too strong for her, causing her to get totally confused and disoriented. Our local family practice doctor saw the rash and KNEW it was Shingles. I got to put Calamine lotion all over her (kinda like payback from when I was a kid). They now have Mom on Neurotin for the nerve pain. Tonight, around 1 am, she rolled over in bed and rolled off the side onto the floor. She did not have the strength to lift herself, so I had to call 911 and they got her up. They are gone and she is slowly relaxing and trying to go back to sleep.
Me, I am wide awake wondering if I should stitch or go back to bed. Smart thing says bed, as we have a busy day planned for tomorrow. You know, house cleaning, laundry and yard work, the usual stuff.
Leg wise, the calf is healing nicely and there is only a little left over knee pain. I see the orthopaedic doctor this coming Wednesday and I will ask him to send me over to PT to get exercises for calf strengthening.
Have a great weekend;
Joanne
